FAQ

Common Questions

There are five OEM part numbers listed — how do I confirm which one is on my tractor?

John Deere updated their part numbering over model years and axle configurations. AL112919 is the current active number that supersedes AL34542, AL36565, AL61553, and RE17356. Any of these on your existing cylinder or in your parts manual confirms this is the correct replacement. The safest verification is to measure your existing cylinder: center-to-center should be 16.75" and overall length 18.75". Still unsure? Call (818) 261-3896 with your model and serial number.

Is this a single-acting or double-acting cylinder, and how do I know which type my tractor uses?

This is a single-acting cylinder, used on the John Deere models listed. Single-acting cylinders have one hydraulic port and use spring return or mechanical return on one stroke. Double-acting cylinders have two ports and use hydraulic pressure in both directions. Check your existing cylinder — if it has one hydraulic line connection, it's single-acting and this is your part. If it has two lines, do not order this cylinder; call us to confirm the correct part.

My JD 6300 steers fine at low speed but wanders at field speed — is that the cylinder or the orbitrol valve?

Steering wander at higher speeds is more commonly a worn orbitrol (steering control unit) than a cylinder issue. The cylinder itself typically fails by leaking or losing hold pressure at the end of stroke. However, if the cylinder rod is scored or the internal seals are bypassing, it can contribute to wander. Check for any external leaking at the cylinder rod first. If the rod is dry, the orbitrol valve should be the next component tested.
