Common Questions

My mower starts fine but the blades don't engage when I pull the yellow knob — is this the switch?

Probably. Pull the switch off the dash and check continuity at the terminals using your mower's wiring diagram. If pulling the knob doesn't change continuity correctly, the switch is bad. If it does change correctly, the issue is downstream — the blade clutch coil, wiring harness, or PTO safety interlock circuit.

What's the difference between this switch and the L120/L130 PTO clutch coil?

Two different parts. This is the dash-mounted SWITCH the operator uses to send 12V to the clutch coil. The clutch COIL is the magnetic device mounted on the engine pulley that physically engages the blades. If your blades don't engage, test the switch first (cheap), then the coil if the switch is OK.

Does this fit a JD STX38 with the 38" deck?

Yes — the STX38 and STX46 both use this AM131966 switch. The deck size doesn't affect switch fitment; the same switch works across 38"/46"/48"/54"/60"/72" decks on these mower platforms.
