Common Questions

How do I know if my tractor is positive or negative ground?

Look at the battery cable connected to chassis/engine. If the (+) terminal grounds to frame, you have positive ground — this gauge fits. If (-) grounds to frame, you need SKU 1815 (negative ground). Most JD tractors switched to negative ground at the serial numbers listed in compatibility. Check yours.

How do I test my old gauge?

Disconnect the sender wire and ground it to chassis with key on — needle should swing to Full. No movement = dead gauge. Stays at Full = gauge is fine, sender is bad.

Is a sending unit included?

No — gauge only. The fuel sender in the tank is a separate part. If your gauge reads wildly off but bench-tests OK, the sender float or rheostat is bad.
