FAQ

Common Questions

What's the difference between main bearings and rod bearings — and are both included?

Both are included in this set. Main bearings ride on the crankshaft main journals (the ones supported by the engine block) and carry the rotating load of the crank itself. Rod bearings ride on the offset rod journals, one pair per cylinder, transferring force from each piston to the crank. For a Deutz F3L912 or F3L913 (3-cylinder) you need both, and this single SKU covers a complete bottom-end re-bearing job for one engine — you don't need to order anything else.

How do I know if my engine needs STD bearings or oversize?

Pull the crankshaft, clean each journal, and measure all main and rod journals with a micrometer. If every journal is at or near Deutz's standard spec and within the wear limit (no scoring, no taper, no out-of-round beyond tolerance), STD bearings are correct. If any journal has been ground undersize in a previous rebuild — or wear is past spec and the crank needs to be reground — you'll need to match the new bearing size to the journal size after grinding. Call (818) 261-3896 if you want help interpreting your measurements before ordering.

My Bobcat 843 has low oil pressure and a knock at idle — could this be the bearings?

Quite possibly, yes. The Bobcat 843 uses the Deutz F3L912 engine. Low oil pressure at idle combined with a deep knock that gets louder under load is classic worn-rod-bearing behavior. Pull the oil pan, drop the rod caps, and inspect the bearing inserts — if you see copper showing through the bearing material, scoring on the rod journals, or excessive clearance with Plastigage, the bearings need to be replaced. Check the mains while you're in there. If the journals are still within STD spec, this set is what you need.
